The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars
Watercolor, gouache, pencil
6" x 8"
About this piece:
In July 2017, I traveled through three volcanic landscapes of vastly different age and human history (South-East Queensland, Dartmoor, and Iceland). As part of the process of studying the different shapes that related stories took in changed physical surroundings, I developed the text for an illustrated fairytale-influenced by Iceland's history and landscape. This is the first of four of the illustrations for the proposed book. It features the moment in which three mysterious ladies (mist-pale, stone-shouldered and seal-slick) send a young shepherdess away, through a landscape of moss and geysers, to recover some unusual jewelry they mislaid beneath a mountain.
