Watercolour on Arches paper

About this piece:
1. The Silfs
My first encounter with the faeries called
Silfs, or Sylphs, was at the Goðafoss waterfall
in Iceland. As the day was drawing to a close, I
could see them dancing amidst the spray of
the waterfall in the last rays of sunlight.
Their lives are as fleeting and delicate
as the iridescent rainbows they create.
Their dances are a sight of beauty and often
thought to be a sign of hope and good fortune
to come.

2. Land of the Sleeping Giant
I was sitting on top of a mountain
overlooking the vast Faultlines when
my eye was drawn to a formation of
rocks half-buried beneath the earth,
moss, and grass. I had already wondered
why I hadn’t seen any giants stomping
across the plains as they did in the
various tales I had heard about these
big, lumbering creatures. Apparently,
all the giants of the Faultlines are
asleep, waiting for the day it is time for
them to awaken once more. Their bodies
have been overgrown with plant life,
which has slowly turned them into the
hills and mountains that make up the
diverse landscapes of this wondrous place.
This particular rock formation had a
barely visible face and a slightly opened
eye: it would therefore seem the giants
are slowly waking up.
