About this piece:
The scariest denizens in the hidden London underground of Neil Gaiman’s 'Neverwhere'.
About this artist:
Jeff Lee Johnson grew up in rural Minnesota far enough from town and friends to have nothing else to do with his time but read and draw. Lucky for him, his mother had a house filled with books by authors like Edgar Rice Burroughs, Kenneth Robeson, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein and the like. It was pure fortune that she could draw and paint, and provided him with an endless supply of materials, tools and patient instruction. He spent time and money at Moorhead State College and The University of Minnesota learning quite a bit more about art than he had anticipated, even earning “Undergraduate Painter of the Year” at the U of M in his sophomore year. For one reason or another, making a living doing art never entered his mind, and he left school to travel the world, doing odd jobs and waiting tables, and ultimately settled into a career building houses. Years later when his body suggested it was time to move on, he discovered the world of computer graphics, and decided to pick up art again. He began plying his craft in fantasy and children’s illustration in earnest around 2004, and has been happily banging his head against the art wall ever since.
