"Stepping Stone" by Chelsea Harper
– Hiding in Plain Sight –
Camouflage features seventy international illustrators and designers who are pulling off the veil on the concept of what it means to be invisible. Artists created work exploring the concepts of blending in, assimilating, and adapting to their surroundings. Whatever the reason, we're constantly in hiding in one way or another. The art of camouflage spans the political, aesthetic, scientific, magical, psychological and social realms. The Camouflage Exhibition is on display May 26th - July 14th, 2017.

About this piece:
It's easy to get overwhelmed. This is for all of you who fight every day in silence, underneath it all, not to be a stepping stone. Stay strong! Don't let yourself get stepped on. That's what they've always said. It is a constant battle, internal and quiet, a crazy juggling routine, trying to maintain the balance between truth and compromise, submission. Yet for some, it is a daily struggle not to become the stepping stone. This is for everyone who struggles with confidence, who get drowned with self-doubt and anxiety, who smile and nod while blaming themselves for feeling anything but sure, feeling overwhelmed and stuck and silent. This is for you. You are not a stepping stone.
About this artist:
In the spirit of this exhibition, I’m going to be totally transparent with you. My name is Chelsea and I'm a budding Freelance artist. Not only that, but I enjoy drowning myself in stories, writing concepts and characters that hurt my friends’ emotions (in a good way), crying in art museums, buying more books than I have shelves for, having existential breakdowns about fingers, and reciting the same scattered bits of Shakespeare and other various poems that I have memorized whenever I can find the means to slip them into casual conversation. I am so honored to be a part of the Camouflage exhibition with Light Grey Art Lab. Thank you so much for appreciating my work!
