– Hiding in Plain Sight –

Camouflage features seventy international illustrators and designers who are pulling off the veil on the concept of what it means to be invisible. Artists created work exploring the concepts of blending in, assimilating, and adapting to their surroundings. Whatever the reason, we're constantly in hiding in one way or another. The art of camouflage spans the political, aesthetic, scientific, magical, psychological and social realms. The Camouflage Exhibition is on display May 26th - July 14th, 2017.

About this piece:

Being social and outgoing has never been my forte. Since I was young, I've always struggled with being a part of a group and being out with other people. I've always preferred being alone, but in a world crammed full of people, that doesn't really work. I quickly learned that showing my unhappiness and discomfort was frowned upon and brings unwanted attention. Smiling, however, makes it much easier to blend into the crowd.

In this piece, I wanted to symbolize that feeling of blending in but still feeling set apart. Walking around with a smile, even though you feel dull and gray.

About this artist:

I'm a young artist who loves telling stories and using art to get those stories out. I have attended both Ringling College of Art & Design and Sheridan, and am now working full-time as a freelance illustrator.
