Color: Scarlet / #FF2400
12" x 16"
About this piece:
A wandering and selective history of the color scarlet.
Scarlet. The color of faithlessness and constancy, sacrifice, and sin, nobility, and violence, treachery, and wit.
It spreads its stain through a hundred legends and stories. Scarlet cloaks and scarlet women, scarlet letters and scarlet pimpernels, blood and clues and dancing shoes.
This illustration traces a very few of those scarlet threads as they are woven into the tapestry of (primarily Western) mythology.
