About the artwork:
Pesta was the personification of death and disease during the Black Plague in nordic cultures. She was most often represented as an old skeletal woman carrying a rake. It's said that if she carried a rake, someone in the family would die of the plague, but if she carried a broom, everyone would die.

About the End is Nigh:
The End is Nigh is an exhibition about the Allegories, Symbols, Stories, Characters, and Rituals surrounding death -- we wanted to investigate everything we can about how cultures and societies prepared for, honored, symbolized, and spoke about the great sleep. View the full exhibition here.
