"Our Late Apartment" by Celia Lowenthal
– Dwellings and the Concept of Home –
TINY HOMES features eighty international illustrators and designers who, through their prints, have explored and challenged our ideas of space: Interiors, exteriors, futuristic, historical, natural or personal. Some of the artwork includes serene hideaways from which to experience the world unchanged by man, methods in which to twist our concepts of what a home can be, close-up views of dwellings where things that exist unseen by the human eye reside, and a means to reflect on what comfort means to each of us. Each and every piece is a comforting and personal vignette that serves as a reminder that there's a "home" out there for all of us.

About this piece:
A "home" is, in its basest definition, a fixed place to which one can return at the end of every day. But the synthesis between its concrete aspects (a unique space personalized by the inclusion of one's particular material items) and its intangible (that special experiential something that decorates a place with memories, emotions, and associations) is what transforms a domicile into a "home". So what happens to that intangible "home" when you, the occupant, must move out and strip it bare? When a space receives a new occupant and becomes unrecognizable, does its former self cease to be your home -- or do you haunt it still, if only in memory and not in the flesh?
