– Dreams and the Subconscious –

MIDNIGHT features new work by eighty international illustrators, fine artists, and creatives who are bravely stepping into the realm of dreams and the subconscious. Artists create work inspired by some of their most vivid and memorable dreams as we attempt to unravel the secret undercurrents, fears, cryptic messages, and fractured narratives we experience through the thin veil of sleep. Throughout the MIDNIGHT exhibition, we welcome participants and viewers to decipher, decode, and analyze the artist's dreams.

You can view the entire collection of artwork on the exhibition gallery here.

About this piece:
I have a recurring dream involving someone dear to me that has passed and though the setting is never the same, what actually happens in these dreams is always repeating.  There is nothing spectacular or mind-bendlingly remarkable occurring in any of these dreams; they are often within the most mundane and ordinary environments, carrying out the most uneventful and familiar everyday tasks.  The deceased is present, acting out their role as if there is nothing amiss.  I unconsciously play along, but my interaction with the deceased eventually leads me to become fully aware that this person is no longer with us and that something isn't right.  The dream often extends as I just observe this person continue on as if they were still here on this earth, talking as though it was just another day, entirely unaware of their physical passing, while the dream becomes hollow and my comprehension of what I am witnessing brings me to the brink of waking up.
