My Magic Wand
Gouache and Colored Pencil
19" x 23" Framed
About this piece:
My piece reflects a duality I find in my work - a cute, appealing style of art that I use for children's book work, and the darker, more horror-inspired imagery that also appeals to me. It can be hard to balance these two in the same piece, or even as an artist that is trying to 'brand' oneself as a certain type of creator. I think childhood is a lot more terrifying and spooky than people make it out to be. The bottom half of my piece reflects the cute side, and the top half is the spooky part, while the center is what drives me to create - a belief in the magic of art.
