FORTUNE
– Luck and Auspicious Times –

The FORTUNE Exhibition includes a collection of gilded, limited edition prints by 80+ artists from around the globe. The artwork is inspired by concepts of fortune, prosperity, and luck, as well as superstitions, good luck charms, rituals, Karma, Chinese New Year and many other cultural concepts of being lucky. Each piece of artwork is hand printed and foiled on art paper with the option of a 2017 hanging wall calendar-- bringing a bit of luck to all of us in the coming year!

Each piece is a unique, hand-foiled original print made with care. Since the process involves printing and individual heat foiling techniques, small imperfections, speckles, and textures can be inherent in the final artwork. These limited-edition gilded works are only available throughout the exhibition.

About this piece:
Behold, the web of wyrd. A geometric symbol found in many Germanic cultures, but which holds special significance in Norse mythology. The symbol contains every shape of the runes -- hence it is sometimes called 'the allrune' -- and is representative of all the past, present, and future possibilities of the runic alphabet. The web depicted here is built from 9 staves of flowering ash wood, signifying life, fertility, and strength of community.

Wyrd (re: weird) is an ancient and mysterious concept that can be loosely compared to "fate". The ancient Norse people believed that personal destiny was fixed, but there were limitless paths one could choose on a journey towards that destiny. Wyrd also has a much more global reach, encouraging the individual to examine their choices and actions, and how these relate to the web as a whole. The web of wyrd ultimately represents a "living" timeline. Wyrd is woven from individual choices that may branch towards destiny ... or lead somewhere else entirely! The staves of this design are woven to help visualize how seemingly unconnected circumstances may come together, building a fabric which strongly links individuals together.
