About the Work: Everything in Iceland feels a little haunted. The northern area in particular has a distinctly subdued, ghostly vibe. Maybe it's the endless plains of black rock and ash left over from a volcanic eruption. Or maybe it's the steaming sulphuric hot spots where the multi-colored ground has turned liquid. It could be a tiny grass-roofed church alone on a sweeping mountain face, or a dead whale washed up on an empty beach. Whatever it is, Northern Iceland can be pretty spooky. But it's a cozy spooky. A quiet, friendly kind of haunting that makes you feel comfortable and calm while glancing over your shoulder to see someone who isn't there. I tried to capture some of that feeling with these three pieces.
