About this piece:
It took me a long time to come up with a concept for this show. I was thinking a lot about what exactly I had taken away from my amazing time in Iceland, as well as what kind of artist I am and what kind of work I produce. Ultimately (in part inspired by one of the workshops from our trip), I realized I had the freedom to just let go and do something I'd enjoy doing. So my seven pieces play a little bit like panels from a comic. In an effort to take my work a little less seriously, and in conjunction with the theme of travel, I've styled each piece like a postcard (to be used as such, if one desired), with a little blurb on the back about my experience in each particular place.
The pieces are hung from strings of braided wool yarn, that I picked up on the trip.
About this artist:
Lissa Treiman was born in the city of Los Angeles and has never managed to leave.
After graduating from CalArts with a degree in cartoons she began working as a storyboard artist at Walt Disney Feature Animation in 2007, where she has contributed to films such as Tangled, Wreck-it Ralph, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Wreck-it Ralph 2 and Gigantic. She made her first foray into published comics with Giant Days (from Boom! Studios), providing interior art for the first six issues. She has provided cover art for much of the Giant Days series, along with other titles from Boom! and other publishers. Comics is an art form which has always held a special place in her heart and comes through in much of her work. Lissa loves dogs. All dogs. At the time of writing this, she still does not know how to ride a bicycle (shameful).
