"Castor and Pollux" by Liz Pulido
– Dreams and the Subconscious –
MIDNIGHT features new work by eighty international illustrators, fine artists, and creatives who are bravely stepping into the realm of dreams and the subconscious. Artists create work inspired by some of their most vivid and memorable dreams as we attempt to unravel the secret undercurrents, fears, cryptic messages, and fractured narratives we experience through the thin veil of sleep. Throughout the MIDNIGHT exhibition, we welcome participants and viewers to decipher, decode, and analyze the artist's dreams.
You can view the entire collection of artwork on the exhibition gallery here.

About this piece:
It's the third time I've dreamed this tonight and I know how it ends: with an arrow in my side, frozen in time, fighting for breath. In the distance, I hear the baying of three hounds, their master hot on my heels. A twisted root springs from the ground and I lose my footing — fire shoots through my side and I know I am lost. The breath of my pursuers burns hot on my ears, fear and fading mortality anchoring me in place. But all grows quiet and I hear my brother, lover, mirror, friend; his voice an inarticulate river as he presses the honeycomb to my lips. He moves to remove the arrow in my side. Don’t, I try to tell him, but the word swells in my throat and my lungs collapse around it. In one swift moment, he covers my eyes and tears the arrow free. Thick petals of blood open against my fingers as I struggle for air stuck between life and death, awake and dreaming, mortal and immortal.
